Asheville’s Lodging | The Newest and Coolest
Tourism in Asheville, North Carolina has rebounded strongly after the pandemic, with 12.5 million visitors spending $2.6 billion in the city in 2021. The lodging industry accounted for a significant portion of this revenue, with $812 million attributed to visitor spending. Hotel room demand grew by 47% in 2021, with occupancy rising to 68.9% from 49.9% the previous year. Several new hotels and resorts are being developed to meet the growing demand, offering unique experiences such as glamping options like the Mirror Hotel and AutoCamp.
Asheville is also witnessing an influx of independent adaptive reuse lodgings, each highlighting the city's distinct sense of place and storytelling. The Radical, a 70-room property in the River Arts District, is set to open in the fall, featuring a design inspired by graffiti-covered exteriors and various past uses of the building. Zelda Dearest, a 20-room hotel, is inspired by the romance between Zelda and F. Scott Fitzgerald, with a luxurious yet modern design. The Flat Iron Hotel, an adaptive reuse of a 1920s office building, aims to balance the building's austerity with Asheville's earthiness, offering diverse guestrooms and a rooftop bar. The Restoration Asheville, located in an abandoned bank building, incorporates materials like walnut, oak, and hickory, as well as local art, to create a unique and historical feel.
