1981 Deck House | 3+ Bedrooms | 2.5 Baths | 3,066 SQFT | 9.3 Acres
We are so pleased to bring to the the market this cool, contemporary home with distant mountain views privately located in Sugar Hollow of pastoral Fairview. This "Deck House" is an architectural, mid-century home type reflecting a California Post and Beam style home using natural materials and glass to bring the outside to the inside. The home has been mindfully updated and opened up including a new kitchen, bath and laundry making it both fresh and functional. Two of the three lower bedrooms have been converted into a permitted Airbnb currently serving guests, but can function as two extra bedrooms for the home. The home is embraced by large decks and outdoor entertaining areas. There is a separate two car garage or workshop plus exterior parking and drives to easily access both levels of the home. The home is actually four bedrooms while septic permit is for three. There is potential to subdivide off a lot to sell or build an ADU or other home for a compound.

I was just at the Asheville Art Museum and Blue Spiral Gallery on Monday and appreciating our art scene we get to enjoy here. John Cram was a big reason for that. We at Modern Asheville Real Estate are nothing, but grateful for his leading the way in the art and culture scene here in Asheville. Part of our success today is built from the foundation he created. Love and Blessings to his family and friends. Kelly and Troy
“Cram believed not only in himself, but in Asheville, and committed his life to revitalizing a city he felt was not merely a diamond in the rough but the gem of the mountains - even when its downtown was on the brink of extinction and its future hung in the balance.” See the full tribute at the Citizen Times here.

“Located on 1.98-acres off Town Mountain Road in Asheville, the build site is wooded and quite steep. “The lot also has large setbacks which limited our options as far as the house’s location,” says Markulis. These factors all contributed to the unique sculptural shape of the house. This design, which has a narrow footprint, allows the house to take full advantage of the cooler weather at the site’s higher elevations and permits nearly every space within the home to benefit from natural light.” by Paul Howey
I found this home while perusing the pages of Dwell Magazine. Built on a granite hillside it is a unique example of what could be created in our area. I appreciate the push and pull of functional forms and use of simple materials to create a somewhat modest and playful home.
The Good Haus celebrates the intersection between design and performance – and seeks to be an example of a “good house”. The house is the family home of principals Mela Breen and David Good (designer and builder) – and playfully gets it’s moniker from Dave’s last name. So what is our idea of a good house? In this case it is one that is pushing the possibilities of a site specific design while holding itself accountable to reaching the highest level of energy efficiency. Our good house is one that embodies our beliefs about resiliency, efficiency, health and comfort, beauty and playfulness. Go HERE for the full article. Enjoy!
Yeah! Here is an opportunity to feel empowered. Early voting began yesterday and HERE is the information you need to know about where to go and at what times. Know you can go to any location that is convenient for you. Cheers! Kelly and Troy
39 MIddlemont Ave. | 2 Bedroom | 2.5 Baths | 2,234 SQFT | .27 Acre
Premiere modern "loft style" home dreamed and constructed from the bones of a former neighborhood church. With a clean and modern sensibility the simple and smart architect designed space offers flexibility for live/work, along with, separate guest quarters. The open main space encompasses a dramatic vaulted and trussed ceiling, original polished concrete floors, European kitchen, thoughtful and sleek accent lighting blended with original sanctuary fixtures and a floating wood burning fireplace by Fireorb.
Flanking the main space is a frosted glass partition dividing a bedroom, bathroom and walk-in closet. At the other end is a convenient half-bath and doorway leading to another bedroom en suite with built-in kitchenette and bath with a stainless Japanese soaking tub. Hansgrohe fixtures throughout. The home is located near Malvern Hill Park in West Asheville and just a few blocks from Patton Ave amenities and a few minutes trip to downtown.
