We love our vintage homes in Asheville designed by late architect J. Bertram King. We especially love when they, themselves, have been loved over the years and have been mindfully updated while maintaining their original integrity and modernizing for today. Randy and Don’s house is exactly one of those homes expertly stewarded by them. Within my own home we debate painting brick on pretty much every brick home we see. The 50’s duplex I own I chose not to paint the brick as I love the variety of colors in it. And Kelly and I often talk about painting brick ranch homes to modernize them. I admit I have not considered the implications in doing this as I’m often driven by aesthetics and color. Recently I came across this article on houselogic.com. It breaks out reasons you should not paint your brick and where it may be appropriate. Following this I was made aware that actually staining brick can be healthier for exterior brick surfaces. See more on that here. Regardless of which direction you go you will be better informed in making that decisions and have a couple more options. Cheers!
