Disaster Legal Assistance and Helpful Information

Are you struggling with sorting all the avenues for disaster and housing relief? Legal Aid NC can help you as a one-stop place to both get help and offer help. Check out their helpful page of resources HERE.

Also, we have heard so many heart-warming stories about how contractors have come from near and far to help people during these past two weeks. We are here for that! Thank you. That being said, human nature has a flip side. There are those out there who can take advantage of innocent people. We would suggest taking a moment to process what you are hearing from someone and follow the tips HERE, also from Legal Aid of North Carolina.

LOVE ASHEVILLE FROM AFAR

We’ve been following many ways to support Asheville. This way, from Explore Asheville, caught our eye given all the small businesses and artists who have been affected during our peak season.

“In the wake of Hurricane Helene, many beloved Asheville and Buncombe County businesses have been deeply affected by the storm. While the community comes together to rebuild, you can lend a helping hand from afar by shopping at these businesses' online stores or contributing to fundraising efforts.

Local, independent businesses are the heart of Asheville, home to growers who are artists and artists whose work grows. Thought leaders and thought provokers, musicians and storytellers, entrepreneurs and educators, foodies and beer lovers, hippies, healers, adventurers, creators and innovators. We craft and brew and paint and carve, handcrafted by real hands. Real hands that need a helping hand. And a hug.”

Go HERE to shop and support. Cheers!

Asheville Water Update

There are many sources with different information on water restoration. The one I found most helpful is Asheville Watchdog here. The overall advice I’m seeing is the following. The only addition I’ve seen out there from friends and plumbers is to run water through your outdoor hose bid rather than your tub to start.

What to do before water service returns:

  • Flip off the breaker to your water heater.

  • Turn off water to your water heater.

  • Turn off hot water under your sinks.

  • Remove aerator (it typically unscrews) on faucets.

  • Turn off the ice maker.

  • Turn off water to your whole house filter, if you have one.

What to do when your water service returns

  • Flush your home plumbing by running the bathtub’s cold water faucet.

  • Your water heater may be turned back on once your home’s plumbing has been flushed.

  • It’s safe to flush your toilet after completing steps 1 and 2.
