7 Ways to Define the Trend by Jae Curtis | Once upon a time, building a home in the mountains meant something along the lines of bear rugs and deer heads. Sure, it was fine for a weekend getaway, but rustic homes didn’t always feel livable. The knickknacks and kitschy design can easily turn a mountain home into a caricature of itself. What seems like a fun space for a weekend can feel too heavy and cluttered for real-life living. That’s why the mountain modern trend is so appealing. Architecture that pays homage to mountain life without the heavy hand makes these homes more livable. Without the clutter and kitsch, mountain living becomes a lot more comfortable. What’s more, this design style respects the land and makes your dreams of mountain life even more attainable.
Check out some of the most common aspects of mountain modern design and decide if it’s right for you. Check out the full article on freshhome here. Cheers!

Hi Folks! We are hosting a Real Estate Broker Open House this Wednesday from 4 to 6pm at 39 Middlemont Ave in West Asheville. Stop by for a tour and a glass of wine and an afternoon treat. The premiere modern "loft style" home was dreamed and constructed from the bones of a former neighborhood church. With a Scandinavian sensibility the simple and smart architect driven {Brickstack Architects} space offers flexibility for live/work, along with, separate guest quarters. The open main space encompasses a dramatic vaulted and trussed ceiling, original ground and polished concrete floors, European kitchen, thoughtful and sleek accent lighting blended with original sanctuary fixtures and a floating wood burning fireplace by Fireorb.
Flanking the main space is a frosted glass partition dividing a bedroom, bathroom and walk-in closet. At the other end is a convenient half-bath and doorway leading to another bedroom en suite with built-in kitchenette and bath with a stainless Japanese soaking tub. Hansgrohe fixtures throughout. Amen! The home is located near Malvern Hill Park in West Asheville and just a few blocks from Patton Ave amenities and a few minute trip to downtown.

COZY IN COR-TEN | Architects Maria Rusafova and Jakub Markulis embarked on their home building adventure with a small amount of savings and a lot of enthusiasm. They had no bank loan, so construction took place slowly, stretching out over the course of a decade. Remaining true to their beliefs, they designs a small, efficient, light-filled home in a secluded West Asheville locale.
COR-TEN steel veneer panels in a rich sable patina blend artfully with the lush greens and brown of the surrounding forest, with large windows carefully position to frame a view of the urban forest. The home looks and feels like a tree house. The open concept floor plan suits their lifestyle perfectly. Family members spend most of their time in front of the 17-foot high focal window, playing games, doing homework, or relaxing in one of the bean bag chairs where they can observe nature's ever-changing performances on the wooded stage. Maria explains that there aren't many opportunities to "escape" from one another, but that's how they like it.
