This article by Architect Rick Joy came across our feed recently and I found myself lost in poetic language and the sense of design and place. It has been interesting of late having buyers tour homes and observing them take notice when a house plan is simply placed on a piece of land without any thought to the site and surrounding environment. More and more people get the importance of being grounded into nature and the sense of balance and well being that delivers. Joy says, “One can gain a sense of place only by taking the time to become intimately immersed in its particular natural characteristics—the characteristics that make it unique at a broad range of scales.” Please enjoy the full article here. Blame it on the 1970s. Already in desperate need of a mid century renovation less than two decades after its construction, the classic low-sloped ranch house in Raleigh, North Carolina, had been made into a hodgepodge of stuffy rooms and random additions. Gold carpet and heavy floral curtains blanketed the main level, which was awkwardly divided into separated spaces, while the basement was a maze of dark and cloistered bedrooms. For Redfin by Mike Cahill | Modern home design began around the 1940s in an effort to revolutionize the way homes felt. Since then, modern architecture has skyrocketed in popularity for a multitude of reasons, namely form and function. And homeowners have found that modern home design not only stands out but also offers a flexible approach to creating a functional home that is as original as it’s inhabitants. That’s why we reached out to the experts in modern architecture from Morada to Newport to teach the major considerations for homeowners to keep in mind when designing a tasteful modern home. This article from dwell magazine seems to capture many of the ways people are changing how they live within their homes including home offices, multi-functional spaces, less open living to connecting to the outdoors. “As we clock seven months of lockdown, we reached out to designers to see how the pandemic has reshaped our interiors so far. What are clients prioritizing, and what new trends are emerging as a result? What’s becoming clear is that 2020 has brought a renewed focus on function and flexibility on top of aesthetics as we navigate a new normal.” Go HERE for the full article. Enjoy!
