Congrats to Blair and Dave for closing on their dramatic mountain view home. After helping them sell their Fairview Mid-Century they found themselves excited by this four level home that hugs the side of Town Mountain making the most of the view from every floor. It was nice to come across this recent article by M.M.Bianchi for Carolina Home + Garden magazine on our friend and colleague’s home in West Asheville. Ross Smith’s {Assembly Architecture and Build} family home brings a relaxed and light, California lifestyle to this site specific designed home.

“But if the Assembly vibe is light years beyond the Arts & Crafts look, it also veers away from the region’s other overtly contemporary homes. While Westwood Wedge — where Smith lives with his wife  Anna Welton and their infant son Eben — has a tidy footprint, it isn’t dizzyingly tall, like many urban new builds; instead, the home spreads itself around a spacious central atrium, “allowing for an interior garden to clean the indoor air and [provide] natural ventilation during the summer months,” says Smith. The building’s eponymous wedge shape is engineered to the dimensions of a small lot, but its long shed roof supports an expansive solar array.

“Most ‘modern’ homes that you see going up around Asheville are stylistically borrowing from modern design, [but] Westwood Wedge’s modernism is a byproduct of site and climate research, not an exercise in style,” Smith explains.”

Congrats to buyers Vance and Deb for closing on their Elk Mountain Lot where they will build their modern nest here in the mountains. Our team slogan is “Make Your Modern”. As with them our clients come with a vision and we help them look at all options from finding either that Unicorn modern home, to renovating something existing or starting from ground up. 1980’s Condo Updated in Asheville, North Carolina

Often some of the 80’s and 90’s contemporary and open living homes are overlooked for updating. Currently, we have some design-minded clients remodeling one such home nestled in the North Asheville woods. I, also, have updated an 80’s condo in the past and really loved the open and layered layout as seen above. Here is a recent article from one of our feeds on another such remodel that turned out cool and clean. There are many 90’s transitional styled homes with open layouts that function well, but require a refresh. I hope it inspires you to take another look at similar properties. 1990’s Transitional Updated

Robert and Rebecca Nicholas, our creative friends from Splurge and the Uncommon Market, are preparing the below building in the Foundry for their next venture called Marquee. The venue will be a permanent marketplace featuring curated antiques, vintage decor, art, jewelry and crafts. The building is currently undergoing renovations with the goal of opening sometime during the spring of this year. Robert and Rebecca are currently accepting applications for vendors.
