Hotel Design | Placemaking for Locals

In discussing our changing downtown conversations, as we often do, always lead to the hotels and whether or not development is pushing locals out. Is there a way to accommodate both tourists and locals and is our current development doing that? While that is a challenging question, here are some interesting articles from hoteliers looking at that issue.

Go here for Metropolis Magazine. Here. Also, here and here. Note that most of these articles are from the Hotels perspective creating and adding experiences to bring locals and doesn't necessarily address the bigger urban planning aspect of what residents need downtown for living and working.

Down the "Mid-Century" Rabbit Hole

Artist Roger Capron | You know how it goes—you are scrolling the internet and one image pops up and suddenly you are off into a new visual world. That is exactly how it worked when I saw the above image and got lost in the rhythm, colors and geometry of this tile piece. Roger Capron had been a prolific French artist born in Vincennes, France on September 4, 1922. Interested in drawing, he studied Applied Arts in Paris from 1939 to 1943 and worked as an art teacher in 1945. He died on November 8, 2006 leaving behind a considerable body of work that is recognized worldwide. I know you'll want to see more so go HERE. Cheers!

The Faces of Preservation

Kelly and I were chosen to be representatives for the Preservation Society of Asheville & Buncombe County. Their yearly calendar acknowledges various people involved in local preservation efforts. As champions of mid-century and modern homes and buildings we were selected. Here we are pictured inside a well-preserved 1955 Bert King mid-century home in the Grove Park neighborhood. For more information and ways you can help go to psabc.org.

Cheers and Happy Holidays!

Giving Back Under the Rainbow

One of the many things that our team loves about living here in Asheville is the mountain spirit of individuality—supporting your right to be exactly who you are on our nurturing spot of earth. Kelly and I honor that through our work and supporting our varied client base and community. Every year we chose to donate money to a local organization that touches our hearts. This year we are very pleased to announce our support and donation to Tranzmission—an organization supporting those seeking gender affirmative support. May we all walk our own path so bravely and beautifully. Cheers!

SNOW DAY! If you are living in Asheville you already know it is a snow day here. While our typical winters see light snows that last around 24 hours we were treated to a beautiful winter wonderland worthy of a Bing Crosby tune. So, while you are romancing this day, if you are able, enjoy some inspirational mountain escapes both here and here and just a little more here.

Wishing you a safe and cozy day today. Cheers!
